Laminate floors in the kitchen, Yei or nay?

Are you thinking about having laminate flooring installed in a kitchen area? Have you had thoughts about whether that is a flooring system that will work in a kitchen area? Is it good for that type of floors to be installed in an area that can have moisture? These are just fine questions that come to mind when thinking about laminated floors being used in a kitchen. So should laminate floors being installed a pro or a con? We at Hardwood Floors Plus have our own opinion bout this subject!

When you think about a kitchen area it is tough to decide on what type of flooring may be the best option. There are many factors that go into making that decision and it is best to know the pros and cons of using a laminated floor in your next kitchen area project.

The pros of using laminate flooring in a kitchen area are:

The laminated floor is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is often selected to be installed because of the wide range of finishes that it comes it. Often the selection includes a number of different colors, a wide range of patterns, and several types of styles. One of the most attractive features of laminate floorings is the finish can be different types of wood species that really look like authentic solid wood flooring. Because the process is much faster to be installed and often can be done more easily it is an attractive choice.

Another attractive feature of laminated floors is the styles and finishes that are offered. The style can range from a warm rustic farmhouse look to a very sleek and modern design that brights lightness to a room. Manufacturers are designing and bringing new styles, finishes, and textures to the market every day. Having so many different selections available really makes the possibilities needless with the design of a new flooring This is a huge bonus.

When it comes to having a new floors installed in a space one factor that is usually considered is the price of the materials and the installation. Most people often discover that laminate can cost less than other flooring systems. It is a very affordable option and with all the different finishes and styles available most people often lean toward these types of floors.

Lastly on the pro list is something that we all think about after the installation process has taken place. The maintaining and caring for the floors on a daily basis. Laminate floors are very easy to care for and maintain. As long as you clean up spills and do not expose the coloring to moisture for a long period of time it is easy to clean and will remain with its new finish for a long period of time.

When it comes to any flooring system there are cons that are always associated with each type. Installing a laminate in a kitchen can come with a few cons:

When you install a laminated floor in a kitchen area it can be exposed to moisture for longer periods of time. Often there could be a spill or a water leak in the area that exposes the floor to moisture for an extended period of time. This could cause the floor to be damaged and in need to be repaired.

Another con of using laminate in a kitchen area or any area is that the flooring can not be refinished after a period of time. Like with solid wood floors after the finish wears off or there is damage the floor could be repaired, while with laminate the flooring would have to be replaced.

One feature of laminate flooring that is not very attractive is the fact that it is not an environmentally friendly option. When the flooring is removed and taken to a landfill it does not degrade fast. This is due not only to the plastic content of the flooring material but also the chemicals that the flooring planks are treated with. So it environmentally friendly is something that you are concerned about laminate flooring in your kitchen area may not be what you would select.

With all that being said there are just as many pros as cons to installing laminate flooring in a kitchen space. The finishes, styles, and textures along with affordability make it an attractive choice while the concern with the exposure to moisture, it not being environmentally friendly maybe a total deal breaker as a choice.
