What flooring is easier to install?

The installation of new floors in a home can give it a new look that may homeowners just love. But there is a difference in the process that goes into the installation of the flooring. The most popular types of floor is laminate flooring material or solid wood flooring. Both of these floor types have their pros and cons, but when it comes to the installation process there are quite different. While removing the old floor and preparing the room for a new floor may be very similar, the installation of the new flooring may be very different depending on which materials are selected.

While a solid wood flooring is much more durable and will outlast a laminate floor material the process that is completed when the floor is being laid is much different. When a solid wood flooring is selected there is generally a high quality hardwood floorboard that is cut from a hardwood tree. A laminate floor is constructed from particleboard. The particleboard that has a photo of the surface bonded with the board when covered with a layer of plastic on top. Laminate flooring is durable and can be used in many areas, but it is not as durable as solid hardwood flooring. With that being said just because the hardwood flooring is a different type of quality than the laminate flooring that does not mean that is is always the best.

When it comes down to it laminate is actually able to outperform hardwood flooring in many ways, plus the installation of a laminate floor is much easier and cheaper to install that any solid wood flooring. Laminate flooring is much easier to install from the get go. It does not need as much prepping time or labor to get started plus it does not need as much pampering over the years which can be a win for many. A solid wood flooring will outlast any laminate flooring and can be refinished over the years to regain its shimmer and shine. Unfortunately, laminate flooring is not able to be refinished.

One of the main factors that determine whether a solid wood flooring or laminate flooring is easier to install is if a “Do it yourself installation” can be completed with one of the other types of floors. The clear winner and easier to install is the laminate flooring. It very easy to install and can be reported to be installed by various skilled people.

Laminate flooring are easier to install because they typically are a “floating floor system” that the pieces are able to be snapped together. This means that no types of glues or fasteners are needed to complete the flooring installation process. When the process is complete there is a trimming or finishing process that takes place that completes the installation that does take skill and know how. This is where the process does require knowledge of the installation of floors.

Solid wood floor systems are very difficult to install. They do require a professional installation along with the need for special tools that are required to complete the installation process. Many of the tools that are required are owned by contractors that specialize in the installation of the floor. Using these tools requires skills and know how along with the many factors that take to know how to install the floor itself.

So when it comes down to the bottom line laminate floorings are hands down easier to install than a solid wood flooring. The main factors that go into making this determination are the tools and training that are required to complete the job. While most people would be able to install a laminate flooring they may struggle with the finishing or trimming process, but they would generally have the tools on hand to complete the job. A solid wood flooring not only requires special tools and know how, but completing the job from start to finish is job that is best left up to a professional that has all the knowledge and special tools to complete the job the right way the first time.
